Picardie is a region of northern France stretching from the north of the Parisian suburbs and vineyards of Champagne to the beaches of the Bay of Somme at the edge of the English Channel. Amiens, its capital, is a university town renowned for its Gothic cathedral, floating gardens on its canals and the House of Jules Verne, former home of the famous nineteenth century adventure novelist, now a museum.
