Manu Chao is born in 1961 in Paris. An international star, Manu Chao is above all a big traveler and a talented artist. In 1988, with his brother, he creates the mythical band “Mano Negra”, the story of which becomes  French alternative rock’s history. Their style: a mixture of salsa, ska, reggae, punk and rock … After a tour of Colombia, the band splits in 1994. Manu Chao leaves for Madrid, and then travels widely in Latin America. Four years of journeys follow, during which he soaks up the sounds and atmosphere of the  countries he visited: Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, etc…
In 1998 he releases his first solo album " Clandestino ", a multicolored travel-diary, which he will further develop over the years, including later on with the collective “radio bemba”.
Nowadays, Manu Chao is still on the road,  while sometimes producing albums for other artists, or working on his own projects.

Literature : Cyrano de Bergerac, a play by Edmond Rostand.
Edmond Rostand was a French playwright born into a wealthy Marseille family in April 1868. In 1880, his father took the whole family to the health resort of Luchon (in the Pyrenees), something which will inspire Edmond’s first literary efforts. These include a play," The red Glove "in 1888, and especially "Les Musardises",a volume of poetry in 1890.  He then begins studying law in Paris, before dedicating himself entirely to poetry. Edmond Rostand gains his first success in 1894 with " The Romantic ", a piece of poetry presented at the Comédie-Française; but it is the play "Cyrano de Bergerac" which really brings him glory in 1897. A heroic comedy in 5 acts, the play arrives just in time to rekindle the morale of France, traumatized by the loss of Alsace-Lorraine, following the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. The hero, inspired by the historical character of Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac ( 1619-1655 ), demonstrates  gallantly that we can, despite adversity, keep our heads up, and show a true sense of honour of the soul.
In Rostand’s following works, only " L’Aiglon ", a drama on the son of Napoleon, will reach similar success,  opening the doors of the “Académie Francaise” for him.
Edmond Rostand died in Paris, in December 1918, from the Spanish flu.
